CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERâ„¢ Professional/ Founder
Michael Matheson is honored to work with clients through his unique “Client First” process of Advice, Guidance, and Direction. He and his team draw on more than 80 years of collective, client-focused financial services experience to help build, implement, and provide ongoing direction for each client’s financial path. Whether navigating a retirement decision, planning for education, designing an investment strategy, addressing estate considerations, developing an insurance strategy, or working through any other financial planning topic, Michael understands how to partner with clients to provide thoughtful, tailored strategies that fit their lives. Known for his ability to help clients feel comfortable and supported, Michael brings an encouraging, solutions-oriented approach and is fully committed to adding meaningful value to every financial decision they face.
Michael started his financial services career in 1987 with IDS Financial Services. In 1990, he was asked to join the financial advisory practice of a top American Express advisor, where the partnership ultimately grew into one of the ten leading practices in the country. By 1992, Michael became a partner in the firm, continuing to strengthen his reputation for integrity, professionalism, and exceptional service.
Because of his extensive financial experience, Michael has been invited to work with well-known organizations to deliver financial education to executives and employees. His clients have included West Publishing, Best Buy, and American Express. He has appeared on the WMMN radio show “The Amex Financial Advisor,” provided the weekly stock market report with Rita Maloney on KCCO business talk radio, and has been interviewed on financial topics by respected publications such as The Wall Street Journal, the Minneapolis Star Tribune, and Money magazine.
In 2005, Michael joined Financial Dimensions Group Inc., an established branch of an independent financial services broker-dealer and former broker/dealer Royal Alliance Associates Inc. In 2024, his practice completed a major transition from Royal Alliance Associates Inc. (also known as Osaic) to LPL Financial. Michael and his team could not be more pleased with this decision, as the move has provided access to LPL’s expanded resources, advanced technology, and industry-leading support systems. The flexibility and breadth of independent financial advice—paired with the enhanced capabilities now available through LPL—have proven to be a positive and welcome evolution for both Michael and his clients. Over the course of his career, Michael has earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional designation, along with the Certified Fund Specialist (CFS®), Certified Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC™), and Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA) credentials. These designations, combined with his disciplined commitment to serving clients, have contributed to his strong and well-respected reputation within the financial services industry.
Michael lives in Maple Grove, Minnesota, where he is grateful to share life with an incredible family. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Shawna, daughters Katelyn and Marisa, and son Andrew. Their home is completed by Cheeto, the Boston Terrier; Sammy, the Ragdoll cat; and an unnamed but much-appreciated fish. Outside of work, Michael enjoys singing, golfing, traveling, and being actively involved in Katelyn’s school and church activities. Building and maintaining meaningful relationships with friends and family remains a central priority for Michael, reflecting the same values of care and connection that he brings to his clients.
